the double O – M, another board we developed with chuck burns, is the equivalent of the merrick FLYER in the EDIT surfboard line up. it is your everyday cheater shortboard for mushy, slope-ee, small, and sometimes uneventfull waves. in other words SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA. here, most the time, what works best is a board with more volume in the nose and tail for easy wave catching and planing, lower entry rocker for quick easy speed, a moderate single concave for lift and speed, and nice gradual tail rocker with plenty of rail rocker for tight turns. well thats what you get with the OOM. a light hip above the front fins increases pivot while still allowing a fuller back half of the board. this will give you the constant lift through those mushy flat spots and still maintain sensitivity and responsiveness. a wider mid-point outline increases the outline curve and the volume increase in THE OOM enables you to ride this model shorter than your usual shortboard or gain a lot of float riding it about the same length as your usual board. just depends on your skill level and what your objectives. this model is by no means limited to only smaller surf. it will hang in there on medium size waves as well. myself and others have used this board everywhere from australia to small/medium uluwatu to well overhead surf at playa hermosa in costa rica. so overall, all these things combined together equates into a great all around utility shortboard.
